Our History

A century of craftsmanship and innovation

Founded over a century ago, our company has evolved from its humble beginnings as a plumbing and sheet metal works company to meet the changing needs of our customers. Today, we are proud to offer a wide range of products and services to a diverse set of industries.

Greenish & Basterfield (Pty) Ltd

1921

Greenish & Basterfield started by Ernest Basterfield and Lewellyn Greenish doing plumbing and sheet metal works. Over the next thirty seven years the company grew into an established part of South Africa's industry.

P&N Basterfield (Pty) Ltd

1958

Upon the passing of Ernest Basterfield, his sons Norman and Parker bought out Lewellyn Greenish's shares and formed P&N Basterfield. P&N Basterfield moved the company's focus away from plumbing and towards heavy engineering. The company completed contracts for the Blue Train, South African Breweries, and many others.

Basterfield Bros (Pty) Ltd

1980

When Norman Basterfield passed away in 1980, his sons took over operations of the business and renamed it to Basterfield Bros. Over the next 32 years, Basterfield Bros would become a recognisable name in the catering equipment industry supplying large food service companies such as Famous Brands with high quality stainless-steel equipment.

Basterfield Engineering (Pty) Ltd

2010

In 2010, Basterfield Bros. underwent a rebranding and became Basterfield Engineering, to reflect the company's focus on providing high-quality products to solve problems in a wide array of industries.
