Choosing a boot cleaner: manual, motorised or walk-through?
Match the cleaning method, brush arrangement and entry layout to your footwear, peak staff flow and available water, drainage and power.

Define the cleaning task first
Start with the footwear, the dirt it carries and the site entry procedure. Loose dry dirt, wet residue and material caught in the tread can require different cleaning steps. State whether the sole, sides and uppers all need attention.
Manual describes how the scrubbing action is supplied; motorised describes powered brushes; walk-through describes how people pass through the station. A walk-through cleaner can also be motorised. Compare the cleaning method and the user movement separately.
- Decide whether dry brushing is appropriate or wet washing is required.
- Identify any separate disinfection step in the site procedure.
- Record where the station sits in relation to changing, handwashing and production entry.
When a manual cleaner fits
Manual equipment suits installations where the operator can spend time cleaning each boot and the entry arrangement can accommodate that stop. Choose between dry brushing and water-fed scrubbing before comparing footprints.
- B65010 is a manual dry scrubber with a support bar and three replaceable brushes for soles and sides. It has no water connection, powered drive or integrated rinse. Consider it for compact, low-traffic points where dry brushing suits the procedure.
- B65145 is a manual wet wash unit with a hand-held water-fed brush. A foot-operated valve controls the water while the user moves the brush by hand. It needs a water supply and a suitable waste connection.
- Allow standing room, space to move each foot and access to remove accumulated dirt. The equipment footprint alone does not describe the operating space.
Check which parts of the boot the brushes reach
Brush arrangements are model-specific. Check the sole tread, boot height and surfaces that need cleaning; do not infer cleaning coverage from the number of stations.
- B65166(1P) has two angled side brushes and a hand-held water-fed brush at each station.
- B65166(2P) has fixed sole-cleaning brushes and a hand-held water-fed brush for sides and uppers. Its fixed brushes are for sole cleaning only.
- Both B65166 arrangements use a hand- or wrist-operated mixer. They are manual wash stations, and users rest one foot on the unit during cleaning; they must not stand or climb on it.
- Specify the required station count separately from the brush arrangement and confirm the dimensions of the selected model.
Compare single-station and walk-through motorised units
A motorised unit supplies the brush movement, but the user still needs enough time and access to complete the cleaning step. A walk-through layout must also have a suitable approach and exit route.
- B65230 is a single-station motorised unit with three brushes for soles and sides, venturi dosing and solenoid-controlled water flow.
- B65250 is a walk-through motorised option for a dedicated entry route.
- B65450 is a walk-through motorised sole and side scrubber. Check its selected specification and the space required for the complete entry station.
- Compare the time needed to clean the actual footwear at your site, the space for waiting users and the access required for brush maintenance.
Size for peak entry flow
Use the busiest arrival or shift-change period, rather than the total daily headcount. Note how many people reach the station and over how many minutes.
For example, 60 arrivals in 10 minutes means an average demand of six people per minute during that period. This is a planning calculation, not a cleaning-machine rating. Arrival bursts, boot condition and the required cleaning time can make the actual queue longer.
- Share the peak arrival pattern and proposed cleaning procedure when requesting a recommendation.
- Confirm achievable throughput for the selected equipment and task before fixing the number of stations.
- Allow for pauses to replenish consumables, remove debris and maintain the equipment.
- Plan the queue so it does not obstruct the footwear-changing area, handwashing point or exit.
Check services and cleaning access
Wet equipment needs a planned water and drainage connection. Motorised equipment also needs the correct electrical supply. Obtain the connection details for the selected model before installation.
- Confirm water pressure, inlet and waste sizes, outlet position and any temperature requirements.
- Confirm electrical voltage and the installation requirements of the chosen motorised model.
- For equipment with dosing, confirm the suitable cleaning solution, dosing arrangement and replenishment access.
- Allow room to remove brushes, grids or panels, clear the drain and clean the surrounding floor.
- Include replacement brushes and routine servicing in the operating plan; request spares by the exact equipment code.
Treat cleaning and disinfection as separate decisions
Dry brushing removes physical dirt; scrubbing and rinsing do not by themselves establish disinfection. A dosing system does not by itself establish that the required disinfection conditions have been achieved.
Where the site procedure requires a separate footwear disinfection step, consider the B52673 walk-through bath as part of that layout. Confirm the compatible chemical, concentration, contact time, solution-change routine and any prior cleaning with the person responsible for the site hygiene procedure and the chemical instructions.
